18 Feb 2004 – Tupperware went into Target retail stores last year. Distributor reps were supposed to man the shelves. Tupperware parties, famous since 1951 dropped like a rock. Company sales did too. Distributors moved to newer party plans like Pampered Chief. Tupperware is now raising commissions to Distributors to try to lure Distributors back. Will Tupperware survive? Surely, but once you break that bond of trust – OUCH! Avon did a half step into retail, but was smart enough to back out fast.

2 Feb 2004 – Avon one of the greatest retail based MLM’s is being harassed by a “wanna be” class action suit seeking to "get classified" (that means shopping for complaints). The suit says the company shipped products to a Rep in lawsuit crazy California and failed to return her money when products were returned. 19 Jan 2003 – Several MLM companies have been hit by Asian bans on beef products primarily Japan and Korea. Many nutritional products use bovine gelatin capsules which are general considered safe and beneficial (nails and hair). With the Mad Cow panic these benign capsules have become a target in Asia. Nu Skin is one of few brave companies that announced it is going to use an alternative source for its encapsulated products, after imports to those countries were stopped. Nu Skin noted that the effect will be short term and they are moving fast to fix it. Others are hiding the fact and some are smuggling bovine products in. Ed.
